Summer can be a long and often boring time in the life of a teenager. Granted they love the freedom of not having to be in school all day, but it can be tedious if their days only consist of sleeping in and video games. By the time a young person is fourteen-years-old they can start considering the idea of taking on a summer job. There are plenty of different jobs for teens available in many different sectors.
By far the most popular way for a teenage girl to make money is by babysitting. Years ago it was more than acceptable for a family with two or more children to give a young lady two or three dollars an hour, use of the telephone and a kitchen full of food in exchange for high quality child care. Now young ladies who take on this demanding task are treating it as a small business venture and are asking for their pay in advance and are even demanding overtime. With some first aid training, a sunny disposition and a great deal of patience, this is still one of the very best summer jobs for teens. Gardening and outdoor work is another way for young people to earn some extra cash when they have a break from school. Almost everyone takes a trip away from home during the summer and while they are gone, they need someone to come by to water the garden, pick weeds and mow the lawn. A teen with an entrepreneurial spirit can print up some flyers early in the season, drop them in the neighborhood mail boxes and then wait for the calls to come in. If they provide quality work at an affordable price, both young men and women can expect this to be a lucrative job year after year. As the child matures they can certainly think about entering the trenches and taking on a “real” job. Most of the major fast food chains are chomping at the bit trying to recruit young men and women to work for them, not only during the summer months, but after school and weekends too. These jobs for teens are often the best way for a young person to enter the workforce as they provide great training, a friendly atmosphere to learn and work in and also chances for advancements and raises. Many also offer teens scholarship opportunities. It’s also really important for anyone who has a job to take it seriously. Showing up on time, looking presentable and being hospitable, all bode well on a resume later in life. When a young person decides to start looking at the jobs for teens that are available in their area, they should choose a company with a good reputation and also a position they know they’ll look forward to going to.
